Chinese Broccoli Stir Fry


One of our favorite ways to eat broccoli! This recipe is inspired by the Chinese-American style stir fry broccoli you get at your local Chinese takeout 🥦


A quick and easy side dish to whip up to enjoy. We like to make this along with another dish high in protein and enjoy with a bowl of rice.

Description:

One of our favorite ways to eat broccoli! This recipe is inspired by the Chinese-American style stir fry broccoli you get at your local Chinese takeout 🥦


Ingredients:

  • 3-4 cups broccoli

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 inch piece of ginger, minced

  • 1 medium onion sliced

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp mushroom bouillon powder

  • 2 tbsp corn starch (+1 tbsp water)

  • 1 1/2 tbsp brown sugar

Instructions:

  1. Cut your broccoli into bite-sized pieces. In a medium pot, bring salted water to a boil and add the broccoli. Cook for 2-5 mins and then blanch in an ice water bath.

  2. Prepare the sauce. In a bowl combine water, mushroom bouillon powder, soy sauce, half the corn starch (1tbsp), and brown sugar. Mix well.

  3. In a wok over medium heat, add the garlic and ginger and cook till fragrant. Then add the onion to sweat.

  4. Once the onion is translucent, add the broccoli (drain of all water)

  5. Add the sauce and mix well. Then combine the remaining cornstarch with water and add to the wok to further thicken the sauce.

  6. Allow to cook over low to medium heat for 3-5 mins till the sauce is thick. Then transfer to a shallow bowl.

  7. Top with sesame seeds and enjoy!
